Dr. Piper Norton

Piper Norton, DVM, DACVIM-LA

Dr. Piper Norton is a board-certified equine internal medicine specialist located in the Austin, TX area.  Originally from Louisiana, she graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.  She was awarded the 2007 Equine Clinical Proficiency award and the 2007 Outstanding Senior Veterinary Student award from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.  In addition, she was awarded one of the 12 campus-wide 2007 LSU Tiger Twelve awards from LSU for her contributions to community service in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

In 2010, Dr. Norton wanted to further her education and was accepted into a large animal internal medicine residency program at Texas A&M University. During the 3-year program, she pursued research on foal immunity and was awarded the 2012 and 2013 TVMF Earl Waldell Memorial Award, the 2013 TVMF Auxiliary Clinical Resident Award, and the 2013 SCAAEP Teaching Award.

As neonatal foal medicine is a passion of hers, Dr. Norton also spent a month in Australia in 2012 at Scone Equine Hospital.  In Australia, Scone Equine Hospital is the leading neonatal foal hospital in the country.

Dr. Norton practiced at Elgin Veterinary Hospital for 7 years prior to pursuing her passion to begin her own mobile specialty practice, Texas Equine Medical Associates.

Dr. Norton's specialty includes neonatology, gastroenterology, nephrology, urology, pulmonology, neurology, oncology, and cardiology. This training gives her the tools needed to solve puzzling cases and to help other veterinarians find the necessary answers to ensure that your horse is on the road to recovery. She also has a passion for determining the etiology of Equine Nasopharyngeal Cicatrix in this region.

In addition to her daily practice, Dr. Norton also serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas Equine Veterinary Association and is the President of TEVA. She served on the Infectious Disease Committee for the American Association of Equine Practitioners and was the past the editor of TEVA’s educational veterinary journal, The Remuda.
